Watering and Sod Care
- 1" water within 30 minutes of sod installation
- water two times daily - keep moist for about 2 weeks
- water areas near buildings more often
- after 2 weeks water less frequent and depper watering to allow the roots to grow
- mow no more than 1/3 of grass height after a couple of weeks
Caution
- avoid heavy or concentrated use of lawn for three weeks. This gives the roots time to knit with the soil and the turf will remain smooth and level.
Sod Care Once Established
- reduce your watering times for a maintenance type of setting
- avoid excessive use of nitrogen fertilizer
- generally best to fertilize in the spring and the fall
- maintain a higher mowing height during heat of summer to conserve water
